Talent Contests
Our experience
in Running Talent contests is second to none, selling out some of the top
venues in the South East and Dublin several times. We usually get around 10-12 venues and hold heats
and a semi final
in each with the winners going on to represent their pub or venue on a larger
stage.
We help all the contestants in the
final with their make-up and costume. We then broadcast the whole show on
screens on both side of the stage with smoke, lights and large backdrops.
There is even a camera in the green room so that the public can see the
effects each performance and score has on the actual contestants back stage.
The screen are transformed into
large score boards allowing the public to view all the positions and scores as
they come in from the judges
Obviously this is a very large
event and takes months of planning but it can be scaled down to meet the
requirements of any venue, without losing the overall effect.
We would discuss a time frame for
running the contest incorporating 2 semi finals and a final into this time.
Normally the best way to do this is pick a date you would like the Final and
work backwards.
The competition is then advertised
in as many diverse ways possible including posters, newspapers, and the web.
If possible it is a good idea to incorporate a charity and raise funds for
this via raffle sales as this can sometimes aid in relatively cheap
advertising within the local media.
We then have to appoint judges and
these can be from the bar staff or local customers to pick each heat winner.
Normally two or three contestants per night will
be
chosen to go through to a semi final.
On the semi final nights we try
and pick 5 from each to appear in the Final as 10 contestants is normal taking
into account time constraint.
On the Final we suggest that we
get 2 or more judges from the local media or a rep from the charity.
The contestants are then led onto
the stage 1 at a time and asked a little about who they are going to be
tonight without actually mentioning the name then they are led off to get
changed into costume. When the last contestant has had his little interview on
stage the first one should then be all made up and ready to take the stage as
their artist.
It is slick, fun and very
professionally done.
This format can be used for any
talent contest with a few changes here and there.
